Rippey Lions Club – The Rippey Lions Club joined together for its first meeting and enjoyed a potluck meal. Planning began for serving roast beef sundaes and other preparation for serving food for the bike riders and others on the day of the Bike Ride to Rippey on Feb. 3 and plans for the proceeds from that day.

Pastor Paul Burrow presented the program by sharing recent places of interest in Iowa from the Field of Dreams to the Loess Hillls with state parks and other interesting sites to visit. Mary Weaver with the Friends of Education Committee will present the program for the Rippey Lions Club on Jan. 18 with information on the proposed Greene County Community High School/Career Academy proposal. Community people who are interested can come for the program at 8 pm at the Rippey United Methodist Church.

Hanaman travels – Dale and Nancy Hanaman enjoyed visits Matthew Hanaman and Heather Lee and their families in Eau Claire, WI, over the holidays. They were part of “crazy pajama day” and a marathon of Christmas movies. They traveled on Superior, WI, to visit with Sarah and Benji Pearson, Steven, Elizabeth and Andrea. While there they all celebrated Sarah’s birthday. The grandchildren helped make a cake and prepare Sarah’s birthday meal. Nancy and Dale returned recently to share in the celebration of Elizabeth’s 14th birthday.

Virgene Morse hosted their family Christmas recently in her home. Enjoying her beef stew at the Christmas Eve gathering were Diane and Terry Ostendorf, Ben, Michaela and Madelyn of Madrid, as well as Kevin and Delores Blanshan, their son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Dana Blanshan, and dog Paisley, and their daughter, Kelsey Blanshan, Ankeny. Christmas Day included dinner, candies, games, and their gift exchange. Grandma so enjoyed having her family together with her as they made many new holiday memories, even though the time together went too quickly.

Connie Neese was host to 68 immediate family members for a Christmas gathering. There was plenty of visiting, good food and lots of fun watching the littlest ones enjoy the day.

Kale Borgeson was 14 years old on Friday, Jan. 5. His grandparents Al and Ann Frederick of Jefferson and Jean Borgeson, of Rippey joined Alan and Sarah Borgeson in their home, to help him celebrate his birthday. Kale enjoyed (I think) teaching his grandparents how to play his new board game, Dimension. I know I will have to practice if I think I can ever keep up with Kale.

Surprise party for Dale Thompson – Connie Neese and Jean Borgeson enjoyed being a part of the group of family and friends who surprised Dale Thompson for his 70th birthday. The event was held at the Rippey Community Center on Friday evening, Jan. 12, and was hosted by his daughters and their families. I have been in on surprises and have been surprised on a couple occasions myself, and that second when the honoree reacts and you know it worked is so much fun! Dale’s folks, Dar and Helen, were part of the group of neighbors who welcomed me into the neighborhood 54 years ago last November. Dar was on the co-op board and when they went on the annual co-op tour, Ralph and I stayed with the four Thompson kids. Such good memories for this old lady!
